Python and Twitter |
Techniques for using Python to access the Twitter stream will be presented. Basic approaches for studying Twitter data, such as analysing trending hashtags, friendship networks, and geographic distributions of tweets, will be developed. Python will be used to geographically locate Twitter users, and to visualize the location using Google maps. Beginner-level Python programming experience will be assumed. Participants are strongly encouraged to acquire a Twitter account before the workshop starts. |
Biography |
Dr. Spence received his doctorate in plasma physics from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, and held postdoctoral positions at ETH-Zurich, University of Toronto and Princeton University. As an Applications Analyst, Dr. Spence assists researchers in developing codes to run massively parallel computations. He has led after-school high school clubs in high-performance computing and Big Data analysis. |
